The Market place: Is an open space where traders showcase their goods and services which promote selling and buying.

Sege was one of the biggest developing towns in the Ada West District; the town Sege is located on the Accra-Aflao N1 international road. Since people started living in Sege as result of migration onto the land, originated birth or whatever means, they carry what they want to sell on their head pans and go house to house, door to door just to make a day’s living. The people in Sege and its environs greatly expected this market because cars charge exorbitant fairs upon going to previously where they used to buy and sell food stuffs, Kasseh. Kasseh is one of the biggest markets in the whole of Ada West and Ada East where people from far, near and different places come to buy, sell and also do other things. The people living in Sege and its environs are mostly farmers and traders. When they harvest their farm produce, Kasseh market is the only place where they sell their products.

The people of Sege have wanted to get their own market for some time now and be independent of the rest of the communities. Courageous women together with the women organiser served the District Assembly a letter indicating their quest since it is the responsibility of the body to initiate developments.

In the year 2019/20, the District Assembly mobilized fund through taxes collected and money received from government level meant for development. The market project has been commissioned and rewarded to a construction company for which work has started. Labourers where admitted by contractors to worked very hard to see this come to pass which sped the whole process.

On the 28th day of June, 2012, Sege has been inaugurated into a District capital for the Ada West District which is one of the main reasons why the market has to be built. With the increasing number in the population of the people since the early 2000’s, the need came for social infrastructures to be built to which include major ones like hospital and clinic, a Senior High School, Radio station, Circuit Court, Banks and Police station. The Police Station was meant to curb social vices and ensure law and order.

Lo and behold the market has been completed few months after work had begun and sword cutting took place on 27th January, 2022.

The new market in Sege now provides the avenue for farmers and traders to feel comfortable and also have peace of mind not to think about the helter skelter nature involved in their work.

The newly created market has also created job opportunities for the youth, they include the ‘‘okada’’ boys, and ‘‘kayaye’’ who are unemployed in the town to get something doing to earn a living.

Many people do not spend much money from their homes to get to the market to buy what they wanted as compared to Kasseh that they have to board a car before they buy.

For others, they come to Sege market simply because the days fixed is appreciable for them to trade. These include Mondays and Thursdays. Most traders come to Sege market just because they decided to ignore Kasseh market but as an adage goes ‘’the early bird catches the worm’’, they sell their goods on Monday and after making a profitable share, they continue the next day at the Kasseh market.

Many people don’t know the location of the market because it was located in the middle part of the town near the police station. To elaborate more, the market is located north-west to Ada Senior High Technical School near the Accra-Aflao N1 international road and opposite the Sege District Assembly.

Because the market is new to the system, many traders in different regions and far distances have troubles contemplating about the market days. Due to some of those occurrences, they come to meet only the local traders around and this causes some state of commotion within them. To talk about few disadvantages or challenges faced with the market; the market was not fenced and people who are having shops in the market are afraid but the District Assembly already provided security over the place.

Because some areas are bare lands, when it rains the ground become muddy, slippery and stagnant waters at some areas which is very bad. People settling around the market complained about mosquito bites because they bred on these stagnant waters and lay their eggs and also spread malaria among them causing illness.

A reliable information source within the district revealed that the District Assembly is trying to floor those areas that have not been tiled and also fence the market. Men and women of the community and the market welcome such developments to make the market more comfortable for selling their goods and services.
